Moto Services

Equipping leaders to build a more compassionate and supportive workplace culture.

A sound reason to act

This nationwide chain of motorway service stations wanted to empower its HR leaders to provide real-life workplace support by giving them the knowledge and skills to support any victims of domestic abuse among their staff.

The proof of our approach

We delivered a domestic abuse awareness workshop to Moto’s HR Managers, outlining the legal and emotional responsibilities of businesses, highlighting the impact on individuals within the workplace, and exploring the support measures that employers can implement.

Topics that were covered included:
How to put a policy into action and create a safe environment
The need for sensitivity when requesting bank and ID checks from staff members who may be experiencing abuse
The importance of recognising and eliminating unconscious bias when supporting survivors
Guidance on how to have open conversations with empathy and understanding
How to foster mental health champions within the workplace
Where to access additional support and signpost employees

What came out of the box?

The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive! HR managers expressed feeling empowered to address domestic abuse, with a deeper understanding of the workplace’s role in supporting staff and an increased confidence in initiating and responding to conversations appropriately.

Leaders are now better equipped to navigate the complexities of this sensitive issue, contributing to a more compassionate and understanding workplace culture.

West Yorkshire Police

Training School Officers to identify and address coercive control behaviours.

A sound reason to act

The primary goal was to equip School Officers within West Yorkshire Police with the knowledge and tools to identify coercive control behaviours. This training would then be taken back to their schools where the officers could share insights among young people and their teachers to grow awareness and promote healthy discussions around the issue.

The proof of our approach

Soundproofbox delivered our unique ‘Red Flags’ theatre show to a group of 50 school officers during one of West Yorkshire Police's staff training days. The interactive performance facilitated engagement and provided the officers with a deeper understanding of what coercive control looks and feels like.

What came out of the box?

Participating police officers learned new terms associated with coercive control and felt more confident in identifying and addressing these behaviours. The training empowered them to engage in meaningful conversations with young people and schools about coercive control, contributing to a safer and better-informed learning environment.

Testimonies from attendees led to Soundproofbox receiving numerous enquiries from schools wanting to host similar educational shows directly for students. This ripple effect shows the power of creating a network of people committed to nurturing safer communities!

Corpus Christi Catholic College, Leeds

Empowering students to contribute to a culture of respect and well-being.

A sound reason to act

Tasked with engaging a group of Year 10 students, Corpus Christi Catholic College booked us to show their pupils how to recognise the signs of domestic abuse and instill a sense of responsibility for calling-out unhealthy behaviours.

The proof of our approach

Over two days, we performed six shows to nearly 400 students as part of the school's PSHE education around healthy relationships.

The content was thoughtfully curated to address the nuances of domestic abuse, spark meaningful conversations, and promote lively participation with many interactive elements.

What came out of the box?

The students actively participated in discussions prompted by the shows and displayed a newfound awareness and understanding of coercive control. Their feedback confirmed the positive impact of our shows as a powerful learning experience for young people, with many students reflecting on their own relationships and friendships and remarking that it made them consider the well-being of those around them.

The use of theatre as a medium was celebrated for making the complex topic of domestic abuse both accessible and relatable.

Outwood Grange Academy, Wakefield

Positively influencing future relationship decisions.

A sound reason to act

In June 2023, we collaborated with Outwood Grange (part of the Outwood Academy Trust), to deliver our ‘Red Flags’ show to a group of students aged 14 to 16 years, focusing on addressing coercive control in a way that was both engaging and educational.

The proof of our approach

The show successfully engaged over 450 students, allowing them to actively unpick the lessons portrayed on stage. Our interactive approach enabled students to dissect the content, fostering a deeper understanding that could positively influence their future relationship decisions.

What came out of the box?

We received high praise from the school's police officer, who went on to book our educational show on bullying for Outwood Grange’s younger students, as well as re-booking our ‘Red Flags’ show for Year 10 students in 2024.

‘Red Flags’ has been a catalyst for continued engagement and education as we have gone on to further collaborate with the wider Outwood Academy Trust and are now working across the North Yorkshire schools within their group.

A sound reason to act

A female survivor of domestic abuse reached out to for support after leaving a controlling relationship but still grappling with the trauma of her experience.

The proof of our approach

Through our ‘10 Steps to Healing’ programme, this survivor's journey was guided by a personalised approach, addressing her unique challenges and needs. The programme offered a safe space for introspection and provided tools to navigate the complexities of post-abuse life while focusing on rebuilding self-esteem and confidence.

What came out of the box? (Feedback)

Our programme enabled this survivor to gain a profound understanding of her past whilst also discovering strength to reclaim her identity. The emphasis on setting purposeful goals helped her envision a future beyond the shadows of her traumatic experiences.

“Before I attended the 10 Steps to Healing programme, I was broken and couldn’t see a way forward. A year later, I am running my own social enterprise and supporting other survivors of domestic abuse through self-help groups.”
Please note: this programme is designed for those who are no longer in an abusive relationship and want to re-claim their lives. For support with ongoing domestic abuse, it is always recommended that you contact a local domestic abuse helpline.
